After a fairly steady start to the year things are beginning to liven up a little. The Tesco Extra store opening was extremely successful. Mind you, by the end of the day, after singing 5 half hour slots with the ‘Tesco Extra’ jingle (which Keith and Jeff wrote) every 10 minutes we were all pretty ....... (you make a word fit!!). Everyone seemed happy with the event and we picked up some good photographs from Jessica of Octopus who was responsible for the opening extravaganza, which, if we speak nicely to Steve Clark (built our web site), he might add some to our site.

By the way, lots of good comments about the site over and above those in the Guest Book. Many about the design, layout and speed of loading the samples. Many thanks Steve.

So far we have only managed one three hour session in Birdsong Studios and in that time got three tracks done. We’ve recorded Glenn Pearce’s ’Hi-lo’s’ tribute arrangement of ’Catch a falling star’ along with two of Jeff’s arrangements. ’Blue moon’ didn’t take long, but ’Life git’s tee-jus’ was another matter. We had so many takes it wasn’t just life that was getting tedious! It is such an easy arrangement and yet each time we heard the replay we wanted to do it again. Eventually it went down with Jeff, Keith and Roger singing the ’backing’ along with Ed on guitar, then Ed spoke the song ‘on top’ at another take. It was worth the effort. Ed has made an excellent job. We think he’s our answer to Gabby Hayes!

Last month we ‘did’ a corporate dinner and entertained just eight diners at Newstead Priory, near Brigg, North Lincolnshire.

Keith’s brother Tony Ellis visited the UK from Richmond, VA in July. Tony plays a pretty mean jazz guitar. Too good an opportunity to miss so we fixed up a concert in Belton All Saints School (one of the schools Jeff visits as musician) on Friday, July 5. The school choir took part and we persuaded Ann Rook to come and accompany them along with the few numbers we do with piano. It was a good night with some excellent stuff from Tony and an enthusiastic school choir. We turned out a fair number of new pieces including those listed above plus ‘Whiffenpoof Song’, ‘When I’m Sixty four’, ‘I will’ and the Tesco jingle (in appreciation of the raffle prize they had donated).
